Online Consultations
Do I need to download any software for my online consultation?
There is no need to download software or create an account. Just use a browser on a computer or device with a camera and microphone. I will email you a link that will open in your browser.
What kind of information do I need to provide?
Prior to the consultation, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire which covers pertinent information such as the main reason for your consultation, your medical history and any medications or supplements you are taking. In addition, what you typically eat and drink on a daily basis. Feel free to email me any questions or concerns you may have.
Will my online consultation be private?
All data is encrypted, your sessions are anonymous. We adhere to HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR data privacy requirements.
How much time elapses between consultations?
For most people, 3 -4 weeks between consultations is ideal and allows time during which to apply the recommended dietary changes and see what is or is not working. In the meantime you can contact me if you have any concerns or questions.
Nutrition
Why see a nutritionist?
The most common reasons are to regain energy following extended periods of stress or illness, lose weight ,or resolve a digestive issue or other chronic health condition. I also see a lot of people who simply want to ensure they are meeting all their nutritional needs as they go through the changes associated with aging. People who are concerned about a family history of heart problems, diabetes; thyroid issues, etc. also come to see me as a preventative measure.
Will I have to radically change my diet?
That depends on your diet, however radical changes are rarely recommended. However, if you are being asked to limit or eliminate a food you are over-dependent on, that may initially seem radical. Don’t worry; changes will be introduced at a pace to suit you. I will explain to you why I am making the recommendations I am making. For example, if you suffer with sinus congestion, then it would be wise to eliminate foods known to contribute to mucus congestion and introduce foods that help to break up catarrh. I will guide you through what to eat, and why such changes are in your interests. It usually is not as hard as people imagine, as you will be given all the help, and support you need.
Herbal Medicine
Can I take herbs alongside medications?
Many herbs can be safely taken while on prescription medications. However, before prescribing any herbal remedies for you I will ask for a list of medications and supplements, if any, you are taking. I will then check for any known herb-drug contra-indications. As a general rule herbs should not be taken at the same time as other medications but at a different hour.
Are there any side effects to taking herbs?
The herbs I use are of medicinal quality and non-habit forming. They are used in their whole form, (e.g.: root, flower, leaf, seed). The known active plant chemicals are buffered by the inactive constituents, making them safe, as Nature intended. Pharmaceutical drugs tend to isolate the active constituents and concentrate them, which often leads to unwanted side effects and additional prescriptions to offset the known side effects. The majority of herbalists will prescribe herbs based on their energetics as well as their actions, that best match the individual patient.
Iridology
What is Iridology?
Iridology is the study of the iris of the eye to identify your individual inherited and acquired strengths and weaknesses, on physical, emotional and mental levels. It is painless and non-invasive and offers a practical guide to self-care and prevention of potential health risks. Read more here.
